2nd Annual Float for Dreams Brings Boatloads of Fun

Thursday, March 30, 2017

The Sunshine Foundation of Canada has officially launched the 2nd Annual Sunshine Float for Dreams, an exciting event that brings communities from Southwestern Ontario together for boatloads of fun on the Grand River. The inaugural event in 2016 raised over $80,000 for Sunshine’s dream programs for children across Canada living with severe physical disabilities or life-threatening illnesses. Now in its second year, Sunshine is taking extra care to make Float for Dreams the hottest team-building event and most uniquely fun charity experience of the summer.

On Saturday, June 17th, 2017, hundreds of participants at Sunshine Float for Dreams will have a blast floating from just South of Paris, ON to Brant Conservation Park in Brantford, showing off their team spirit and teamwork skills as they compete in fun on-water challenges sponsored by returning Team Challenge Sponsor BDO Canada LLP.

“Connecting with our communities is a cornerstone for BDO Canada. This unique event helps us make this connection by supporting dreams for kids,” says John Prueter, Office Manager Partner, London. “Absolutely, sponsoring Sunshine Float for Dreams was an easy choice to make. The element of fun and the community atmosphere are all for a fantastic cause,” says Rob Wayne, Office Managing Partner, Kitchener/Waterloo.

Sunshine’s team includes experiential experts who are taking the team challenges to the next level, ensuring that they’ll be engaging and fun for all participants. For those a little less competitive, there will be a “scenic route” available where participants can still be a part of the fun and see the team challenges without taking them on.

“Our vision with Float for Dreams is to provide a fun and fully accessible way for people to get involved with Sunshine,” says Nancy Sutherland, CEO of The Sunshine Foundation of Canada. “It’s a terrific event for corporate teams, families, and friends to come together, have some fun in the sun, and raise vital funds to make dreams come true for children.”

Following the float down the Grand River, Sunshine has a line-up of musical acts to keep the fun going. The Roadhouse Band, former house band at the famous Lulu’s Roadhouse in Kitchener, and locally renowned Brantford band BarCode, will be rocking the crowd with Classic Rock and Top 40 covers, interspersed with sets from DJ Anthony H from London, ON, winner of the 2010 JRMA award for Best Club DJ and the 2014 Scene Magazine's Best Electronic Artist award.

Sunshine Float for Dreams is made possible by the support of key sponsors BDO Canada LLP, VersaBank, GoodLife Fitness, Sofina Foods Inc., Aecon, and RBC Wealth Management, media partners the Brantford Expositor, Corus Radio in London - AM 980, FM 96, Country 104 and Fresh Radio 103.1, and Corus Radio in Hamilton - AM 900 CHML News, Fresh Radio 95.3, and Y108, and with the help of key community supporters Grand River Conservation Authority, Five Oaks Retreat Centre, Grand River Rafting Company, the County of Brant, Brantford Fire Department, Brantford Police Services and EMS Officers.

“The support we receive from businesses and community groups is essential to making Float for Dreams as special as it is,” says Sutherland. “It’s a true community-driven initiative that positively impacts the lives of children across the country.”
